Angels by Workshop - Matthias Hillig
Matthias Hillig is representative of a new group of folk art designers, born and reared during the communist era of East Germany. Right after the political change, he started his own workshop to express freely his own ideas of traditional folk art. Borrowing a technique first used in the making of 19th century smoker men, he made arms and feet of "dough". Matthias Hillig figures are all limited editions.
He created a "Duerrlander' a tall, small figure angel for which he received an award from the woodworker's guild. He also creates nativity sets, smoker men and figures from the children's tales like "Max and Moritz" and Lehrer Laempel. Marionette figures complete his collection.
German Handcraft Imports is proud to be the exclusive importer of these fine and highly collectable handcrafted items.
